The VILTROX AF 9mm F2.8 Air is an ultra-wide-angle autofocus prime lens designed for APS-C mirrorless cameras. Its 9mm focal length provides an exceptionally wide 113.8° angle of view, corresponding to approximately 13.5mm on a full-frame camera. This perspective is particularly useful for landscapes, architecture, interiors, travel photography, street scenes, and vlogging where a large amount of the surrounding environment needs to remain visible in the frame.

Compact Air-Series Design

The lens follows the lightweight and portable design philosophy of Viltrox's Air series. The barrel measures approximately 65 × 56.4 mm for Sony E and Fujifilm X versions, while the Nikon Z version is approximately 65 × 58.4 mm. Weight is approximately 175 g for Sony E and Fujifilm X and approximately 190 g for Nikon Z, making the lens easy to carry with a compact camera body and well suited to travel and everyday shooting.

Advanced Optical Construction

The optical system consists of 13 elements arranged in 11 groups. It incorporates two aspherical elements, three ED low-dispersion elements, and three high-refractive-index elements to help control chromatic aberration, distortion, and other optical imperfections. The design is intended to maintain strong detail reproduction across the image area while preserving the characteristic expansive perspective of a 9mm APS-C lens.

Bright F2.8 Aperture

The maximum F2.8 aperture provides useful light-gathering capability for an ultra-wide lens of this size. The aperture closes down to F16, providing additional control over depth of field and exposure in bright conditions.

Close-Focusing Capability

With a minimum focusing distance of just 0.13 m, the lens can be used for compositions that combine a very close foreground with a broad background. Its maximum magnification of 0.15x allows subjects positioned close to the front element to occupy a significant portion of the frame while the ultra-wide field of view retains substantial environmental context. This combination can create pronounced perspective and immersive foreground-to-background compositions.

Fast Autofocus for Photo and Video

The internal focusing system uses an STM stepping motor combined with a lead-screw mechanism for responsive autofocus operation. AF and MF modes are available, while compatible camera bodies can use functions such as eye and face detection. The lens is also designed to keep focus breathing to a minimum, helping maintain a more consistent composition during focus transitions and making it suitable for vlogging, video production, and focus stacking.
