Wide-Angle APS-C Perspective

The VILTROX AF 15mm F1.7 Air is a compact wide-angle autofocus prime designed for APS-C mirrorless cameras with Sony E, Fujifilm X and Nikon Z mounts. Its 15mm focal length provides an 84.9° angle of view, corresponding to approximately 22.5mm in full-frame terms. This perspective is well suited to street photography, travel, landscapes, interiors, architecture, environmental portraits and video where a broad field of view is important without moving into an extreme ultra-wide format.

Bright F1.7 Aperture

The maximum F1.7 aperture provides strong light-gathering capability while keeping the lens compact. It is useful for shooting in available light, including evening streets, indoor environments, cafés and other scenes where maintaining reasonable shutter speeds and ISO values is desirable. The wide aperture can also provide visible subject separation at closer focusing distances, giving the 15mm perspective more creative flexibility than a typical compact wide-angle lens.

Advanced Optical Construction

The optical system consists of 12 elements arranged in 10 groups, including three ED elements, three high-refractive-index elements and two aspherical elements. This combination is designed to control chromatic aberration, distortion and other optical imperfections while maintaining high image detail. Advanced optical coatings help reduce flare and ghosting, supporting consistent contrast and clarity when the frame contains strong light sources or other challenging illumination.

Close-Focusing Capability

The minimum focusing distance is 0.23 m, with a maximum magnification of 0.1x. This allows the lens to be used relatively close to a subject while retaining a substantial amount of the surrounding environment. Close-range shooting can emphasize foreground elements and create a stronger sense of depth, making the lens useful for food, objects, travel details, environmental portraits and creative compositions where the relationship between subject and surroundings is important.

Fast Internal Autofocus

The lens uses an internal focusing system driven by an STM motor, with AF and MF modes available. Autofocus is designed to operate quickly and quietly, while compatible cameras can use eye and face detection to maintain focus on people and other moving subjects. Internal focusing keeps the lens barrel from extending during focusing and contributes to consistent handling, particularly when the lens is used for handheld photography or video.

Video-Oriented Performance

The AF 15mm F1.7 Air is also designed with video use in mind. Low focus breathing helps minimize noticeable changes in framing during focus transitions, while controlled distortion supports a natural-looking wide-angle image. Smooth autofocus transitions and the compact body make the lens suitable for handheld video, vlogging, travel filmmaking and other situations where a wide perspective and low equipment weight are valuable.

Compact Air-Series Construction

The lens follows the lightweight Air-series design philosophy, weighing approximately 180 g for Sony E and Fujifilm X versions and approximately 195 g for Nikon Z. Dimensions are about 65 × 56.4 mm for Sony E, 65 × 56.7 mm for Fujifilm X and 68 × 58.5 mm for Nikon Z. A 58mm filter thread, durable metal mount, front-element splash-resistant and anti-fouling coating, supplied lens hood and USB-C firmware-update interface add practical functionality without significantly increasing the size of the setup.
