Full-Frame Pancake Design

The VILTROX AF 26mm F2.8 EVO is a compact full-frame wide-angle autofocus prime designed for Sony E and Nikon Z mirrorless cameras. Its 26mm focal length provides an 81.2° angle of view, offering a useful balance between wide scene coverage and a natural-looking perspective. The lens is well suited to street photography, travel, documentary work, architecture, landscapes, environmental portraits and everyday photography where both the subject and surrounding context are important.

Ultra-Compact Construction

The lens follows a pancake-style design with an exceptionally short body while retaining dedicated controls for aperture and manual focus. The Sony E version measures approximately 66 × 23.8 mm and weighs around 130 g without accessories, while the Nikon Z version measures approximately 69.4 × 25.8 mm and weighs around 170 g. Its all-metal construction provides a solid physical feel while keeping the overall camera setup compact enough for everyday carrying.

Optical Performance

The optical system consists of eight elements arranged in six groups, including two aspherical elements and one high-refractive-index element. This compact optical formula is designed to maintain good image detail while controlling aberrations within the limited dimensions of a pancake lens. The AF 26mm F2.8 EVO is designed to provide strong central sharpness from the maximum F2.8 aperture, while in-camera correction contributes to controlled distortion and natural-looking straight lines in suitable subjects.

F2.8 Aperture and Seven-Blade Diaphragm

The maximum F2.8 aperture provides a useful combination of compact dimensions, light-gathering capability and creative control. It can be used for available-light street photography, travel scenes, interiors and everyday shooting without requiring a larger and heavier lens. The seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a consistent rendering of out-of-focus areas, while stopping the lens down can also produce defined sunstar effects when photographing bright light sources.

Close-Focusing Capability

The minimum focusing distance is 0.2 m, with a maximum magnification of 0.2×. This allows the lens to move beyond conventional wide-angle environmental compositions and work with relatively small subjects at close range. Food, products, textures, plants and everyday objects can be photographed with an expanded sense of perspective, while the 26mm focal length retains enough surrounding space to show the environment around the subject.

Autofocus and Dual Controls

Autofocus is driven by a compact gear-type STM stepping motor and a full-group focusing system. AF and MF modes are available, allowing the lens to be used for both automated everyday shooting and deliberate manual focusing. Separate aperture and focus rings provide direct physical control despite the extremely thin barrel, making it possible to adjust exposure or focus without relying entirely on camera menus. The lens also includes a USB-C port for firmware updates and is compatible with the VILTROX Lens App and PC software.

Everyday Handling and Accessories

The lens features a rubber-sealed mount designed to provide additional protection against dust and moisture around the camera connection. A magnetic front lens cap is supplied for quick attachment and removal, while the dedicated hood incorporates a 43mm filter thread, allowing compatible filters to be used without sacrificing the compact pancake concept. There is no optical image stabilization, so stabilization depends on the camera body when available. The combination of 26mm coverage, 0.2 m close focus, autofocus and very low weight makes the AF 26mm F2.8 EVO a practical compact lens for keeping a full-frame camera ready for spontaneous shooting.
