Natural 55mm Perspective

The VILTROX AF 55mm F1.8 EVO is a full-frame autofocus prime lens designed for portraits, street photography, everyday shooting and video production. Its 55mm focal length provides a natural 43° angle of view that closely resembles the perspective of human vision. This makes the lens versatile for environmental portraits, city scenes, lifestyle photography and situations where realistic spatial rendering is important.

Bright F1.8 Aperture

The maximum F1.8 aperture combines strong light-gathering capability with the ability to create shallow depth of field. It allows subjects to be separated naturally from the background while producing smooth transitions between the sharp and defocused areas. The aperture range extends from F1.8 to F16, giving photographers control over depth of field in both low-light situations and brightly lit scenes.

APO Optical Design

The optical system consists of 13 elements in 9 groups and incorporates two ED elements, two high-refractive-index elements and one ultra-precision aspherical element. The APO-oriented optical design is intended to keep red, green and blue wavelengths closely aligned, helping suppress chromatic aberration and distracting color fringing. This contributes to clean rendering, high detail and consistent image quality across the frame.

Fast and Quiet Autofocus

Focusing is driven by an STM stepping motor combined with a lead-screw mechanism and internal focusing. The system provides fast and accurate autofocus while maintaining quiet operation, which is useful for both photography and video. AF and MF modes can be selected according to the shooting situation, while compatible cameras can use advanced subject and eye-detection autofocus functions.

Close-Focusing Capability

The minimum focusing distance is approximately 0.43 m, with a maximum magnification of 0.16×. This allows the lens to be used not only for portraits and general scenes, but also for closer details, lifestyle images, products and other subjects that require a shorter working distance. The ability to focus relatively close adds versatility without changing the lens's natural 55mm perspective.

Compact EVO Construction

The lens is designed to combine full-frame optical performance with a relatively compact body. The Sony E version measures approximately 69 × 76 mm and weighs about 370 g, while the Nikon Z version measures approximately 69 × 78 mm and weighs about 390 g. The body uses a durable construction with a rubber-sealed mount, while the front element features a water- and smudge-resistant coating for additional protection during everyday outdoor use.

Practical Controls and Connectivity

The lens features dedicated physical controls including an Fn button, AF/MF switch and CLICK switch for aperture-ring operation, providing direct access to frequently used functions. A 58 mm filter thread supports standard photographic filters, while the USB-C port allows firmware updates. Electronic communication with the camera provides EXIF data transmission, and the internal focusing design helps maintain a consistent physical length during operation.
