APS-C Portrait Prime

The VILTROX AF 75mm F1.8 EVO is a compact autofocus telephoto prime designed for APS-C mirrorless cameras. Its 75mm focal length provides an approximately 112.5mm equivalent field of view, offering the perspective and compression associated with classic portrait photography while remaining practical for everyday shooting, lifestyle images, street portraits and detail work.

Bright F1.8 Aperture

The maximum F1.8 aperture provides a combination of light-gathering capability and pronounced subject separation. It allows the lens to remain useful in indoor environments, at dusk and in other lower-light situations while also producing a shallow depth of field. The nine-blade aperture contributes to smooth, naturally rounded out-of-focus highlights and soft background rendering.

Advanced Optical Construction

The optical system consists of 11 elements arranged in 9 groups, including two high-refractive-index HR elements and two extra-low-dispersion ED elements. This configuration is designed to control chromatic aberration and other optical imperfections while maintaining high image detail and clean edges. The result is a balanced rendering suitable for both portraits and subjects with fine textures.

Natural Telephoto Perspective

On an APS-C camera, the 75mm focal length produces an approximately 112.5mm equivalent angle of view and a 21.4° viewing angle. This perspective provides moderate telephoto compression that can separate a subject from a busy background without creating an excessively distant shooting position. It is well suited to half-body portraits, lifestyle photography, urban details and everyday telephoto compositions.

Fast STM Autofocus

The lens uses an STM stepping motor with a lead-screw focusing mechanism and supports both autofocus and manual focus. Internal focusing helps maintain a compact physical design while allowing the lens to focus from 0.74 m to infinity. The maximum magnification of 0.12x also makes the lens useful for closer views of flowers, textures, objects and other small details.

Compact and Practical Construction

The EVO series design keeps the lens relatively small and lightweight for a fast APS-C telephoto prime. Depending on the mount, the lens weighs approximately 325–355 g and measures about 69 mm in diameter, with a length of approximately 76 mm for Sony E and Fujifilm X versions or 78 mm for Nikon Z. A rubber-sealed mount and protective coating on the front element provide additional protection when shooting in light dust or moisture.

Practical Controls and Accessories

The lens features a 58mm filter thread for attaching commonly available filters and other front-mounted accessories. Sony E and Nikon Z versions include a dedicated Fn button, CLICK switch and AF/MF switch, while the Fujifilm X version does not include these controls. A USB-C port is provided for firmware updates, and the lens is supplied with a dedicated round lens hood for additional front-element protection and control of stray light.
