Overview
Overview
Ultra-Wide APS-C Perspective
The VILTROX AF 13mm F1.4 is an ultra-wide-angle autofocus prime designed for APS-C mirrorless cameras with Fujifilm X, Sony E and Nikon Z mounts. Its 13mm focal length provides a very wide perspective equivalent to approximately 20mm on a full-frame camera, making it suitable for landscapes, architecture, interiors, travel photography, night cityscapes and environmental portraits. The wide field of view is also particularly useful for vlogging and handheld video, where keeping both the subject and surrounding environment in the frame is important.
Bright F1.4 Aperture
The maximum F1.4 aperture gives the lens a high level of light-gathering capability for an APS-C ultra-wide-angle design. It allows photographers to work more comfortably in low-light conditions while maintaining useful shutter speeds without relying exclusively on high ISO settings. The wide aperture can also produce noticeable subject separation when focusing at close distances, adding flexibility for creative compositions while retaining the expansive perspective characteristic of a 13mm lens.
Advanced Optical Construction
The optical system consists of 14 elements arranged in 11 groups, including two aspherical elements, four ED low-dispersion elements and two high-refractive-index elements. This combination is designed to control chromatic aberrations and other optical imperfections while maintaining high resolution across the frame. A high-definition nano multi-layer coating helps reduce flare and ghosting, while the optical design is intended to provide consistent contrast and detail when working with demanding lighting conditions.
Close Focusing Capability
The minimum focusing distance is 0.22 m, with a maximum magnification of 0.1x. This allows the lens to be used from relatively close distances while still retaining a large amount of the surrounding scene. Moving closer to the subject can exaggerate foreground perspective and create a strong sense of depth, which is useful for interiors, architectural details, food, objects, environmental portraits and creative video compositions.
Fast and Quiet Autofocus
Autofocus is driven by an STM motor combined with a lead-screw mechanism and an ultra-light internal focusing system. AF and MF modes are available, while compatible camera bodies can use eye-detection autofocus and electronic EXIF communication. The focusing mechanism is designed for fast and accurate operation with reduced drive noise, making the lens suitable for both still photography and video. Its internal focusing construction also keeps the external barrel essentially unchanged while focusing.
Video and Vlogging Performance
The 13mm focal length offers a particularly practical perspective for vlogging, handheld video and gimbal-based shooting. Its wide coverage allows the camera to be positioned relatively close to the operator while still capturing a substantial portion of the surroundings. The quiet STM and lead-screw autofocus system supports smooth focus operation, while the lens is designed with only a slight focus-breathing effect, helping maintain more consistent framing during focus transitions.
Durable Construction and Practical Controls
The lens has a dust-resistant design, with sealing around the aperture ring and mount connection, while the front element features a water-repellent and anti-fouling coating. The non-bulbous front design allows the use of standard 67mm filters, which is useful for ND and polarizing filters without requiring a specialized oversized holder. The lens measures approximately 74 × 90 mm and weighs around 415 g for Fujifilm X and Sony E, while the Nikon Z version is approximately 74 × 92 mm and weighs around 455 g. Firmware can be updated through the USB interface, allowing the lens to maintain compatibility with supported camera systems.
