The VILTROX AF 16mm F1.8 is a full-frame ultra-wide-angle prime lens designed for Sony E and Nikon Z mirrorless cameras. Its 16mm focal length provides a 105.6° angle of view, allowing the frame to accommodate expansive landscapes, architectural interiors, city scenes, environmental portraits and dynamic video compositions. The wide perspective is also useful when working in confined spaces, where a conventional wide-angle lens may not provide enough coverage.

Bright F1.8 Aperture

The maximum F1.8 aperture gives the lens a high level of light-gathering capability for an ultra-wide design. It is particularly useful for landscape and architectural photography at dusk, interior work, event shooting and astrophotography, where maintaining reasonable shutter speeds and ISO values is important. The wide aperture also makes it possible to create noticeable subject separation at close focusing distances, giving an ultra-wide perspective with a more pronounced sense of depth.

Advanced Optical Construction

The optical system consists of 15 elements arranged in 12 groups, including four ED elements and three aspherical elements. This configuration is designed to control chromatic aberration, distortion and other optical imperfections while maintaining high resolving power across the frame. The lens is capable of producing detailed images from the center toward the edges, while the optical design also helps maintain controlled rendering of architectural lines and fine details.

Close Focusing and Creative Perspective

The minimum focusing distance is 0.27 m, with a maximum magnification of 0.1x. This allows the lens to be used from relatively close distances while still retaining its characteristic ultra-wide perspective. Moving closer to a subject can emphasize foreground details and create a strong sense of spatial depth, making the lens suitable for creative environmental portraits, interiors, products, foreground-rich landscapes and immersive video compositions.

Fast and Quiet Autofocus

Autofocus is provided by an STM stepping motor combined with a lead-screw mechanism and an internal focusing system. The design enables fast and precise focusing while keeping operation quiet enough for video production. AF and MF modes are available, while eye and face detection support allows compatible cameras to maintain focus on subjects during portraits, vlogging and moving scenes. The internal focusing construction also keeps the physical length of the lens stable during focusing.

Professional Controls and Information Display

The lens incorporates a 0.96-inch color information display that can provide useful shooting information such as aperture and focus-related data. Physical controls are designed for quick access to frequently used settings, while customizable Fn buttons provide additional operational flexibility. The lens also supports A-B focus point memory, allowing a predefined focus transition to be recalled for controlled focus-pull work. Firmware can be updated through the VILTROX software ecosystem, helping maintain compatibility and performance with supported camera systems.

Construction and Practical Use

The VILTROX AF 16mm F1.8 has a durable metal construction and is designed for demanding photographic and video applications. Its 77mm filter thread is particularly practical for landscape and architectural work because it allows the use of commonly available circular ND, CPL and other filters without requiring a bulbous front element. The lens measures approximately 85.2 × 103 mm and weighs around 550 g, providing a substantial but manageable package for a professional full-frame ultra-wide prime.
