The VILTROX AF 20mm F2.8 Air is a compact full-frame autofocus prime lens designed for Sony E and Nikon Z mirrorless cameras, with an L-mount version also available. Its 20mm focal length provides a 91.6° viewing angle, allowing a large amount of the surrounding environment to fit into the frame while maintaining a practical wide-angle perspective. The lens is well suited to landscapes, architecture, interiors, travel, street photography, environmental portraits, vlogging, and everyday visual storytelling.

Compact Air-Series Design

The lens is designed around the lightweight philosophy of the Viltrox Air series, making it convenient to carry for extended periods and suitable for compact mirrorless camera setups. The Sony E version measures approximately 65 × 59.5 mm and weighs about 157 g, while the Nikon Z version is approximately 68 × 60.8 mm and weighs about 173 g. The L-mount version weighs approximately 159 g. This compact construction makes the lens particularly practical for travel, walking, gimbal work, and situations where minimizing equipment weight is important.

F2.8 Aperture

The maximum F2.8 aperture provides a useful balance between light-gathering capability, compact dimensions, and depth-of-field control. It allows the lens to remain relatively small while still performing effectively in indoor environments, evening scenes, and other situations with limited available light. The seven-blade diaphragm contributes to smooth rendering of out-of-focus areas, while the 20mm perspective allows foreground subjects to be emphasized against a broad background for compositions with a strong sense of depth.

Advanced Optical Construction

The optical system consists of 10 elements arranged in 8 groups, including two ED elements, one high-refractive-index element, and two aspherical elements. This combination is designed to maintain high image clarity while controlling chromatic aberration, distortion, and other optical imperfections. A high-definition Nano multilayer coating helps suppress flare and ghosting and supports consistent contrast and color rendering. The front optical element also features a water- and stain-resistant coating for additional practical protection during outdoor use.

Close-Focusing Capability

The minimum focusing distance is approximately 0.19 m, while the maximum magnification reaches 0.17x. This allows the lens to approach subjects closely and create an exaggerated wide-angle relationship between foreground and background. Such close-focusing capability is useful for details, objects, food, environmental portraits, and creative compositions where the foreground needs to appear prominent while the surrounding space remains clearly visible. The internal focusing mechanism keeps the front element stationary and contributes to stable operation.

Fast STM Autofocus

Autofocus is driven by an STM stepping motor combined with a lead-screw mechanism and internal focusing. The system supports AF and MF modes and is designed for fast, accurate, and quiet focus operation. Eye and face autofocus is supported with compatible cameras, providing useful subject-tracking capability for portraits and video. The lens is also designed with video use in mind, offering low focus breathing and compatibility with in-body image stabilization on supported camera systems, helping maintain a consistent composition during focus changes.

Wide-Angle Travel and Video Lens

The VILTROX AF 20mm F2.8 Air combines a 91.6° viewing angle, 0.19 m close-focusing distance, compact dimensions, low weight, and autofocus in a highly portable full-frame package. Its 52 mm filter thread accepts widely available circular filters, while a USB-C interface is provided for firmware updates. The lens can be used for landscapes, architecture, interiors, travel, street photography, astrophotography, environmental portraits, and vlogging, particularly when a broad field of view and minimal equipment size are priorities. The combination of a lightweight body and wide perspective makes it a practical everyday addition to a full-frame Sony E, Nikon Z, or L-mount system.
