Cinematic expression with a full-frame sensor
The full-frame FX2 delivers stunning cinematic imagery, blending high resolution with beautiful bokeh. Equipped with a back-illuminated Exmor R™ CMOS sensor supported by a BIONZ XR™ image processing engine and advanced AI processing unit, the camera offers high sensitivity, wide latitude, and 33 MP resolution, giving ambitious cinematic visionaries everything they need.

Outstanding image quality for maximum editing flexibility
The FX2's full-frame sensor produces footage with smooth, natural gradations thanks to 15+ stops of latitude when recording with S-Log3, enabling even high-contrast scenes to be captured in full detail. Base ISO for S-Log3 capture can be set to 800 or 4000, and the camera supports S-Gamut3/S-Gamut3.Cine colour gamuts for broad compatibility. That all adds up to maximum editing efficiency when shooting with multiple cameras.

Multiple recording formats for versatile shooting and editing
7K oversampling is used with full pixel readout and no pixel binning when shooting full-frame 4K (QFHD 3840 x 2160), and 4K 60p (59.94p) recording is available in Super 35mm mode. With 10-bit depth, 4:2:2 colour sampling, an efficient MPEG-H HEVC/H.265 codec, and Intra recording including DCI-4K (4096 x 2160), outstanding quality is assured.

Log recording modes for production flexibility
For creative flexibility, there are three modes available for Log recording — Flexible ISO, Cine EI, and Cine EI Quick — with Cine EI widely used in professional filmmaking for footage shot with post production1920 in mind. Based on the shooting environment, choose a base ISO of either 800 or 4000 to maintain maximum latitude throughout the shoot, allowing for specific tonal ranges to be enhanced in post production to achieve your desired cinematic look.

Import up to 16 user LUTs
With the FX2, LUTs can be imported and applied to the LCD monitor and the electronic viewfinder while shooting or playing back movies, providing a more accurate preview of the final graded image. In addition to three presets, up to 16 user LUT files can be imported from memory cards or Sony’s Creators’ Cloud and selected as needed. The LUT used for recording can then be embedded in the video metadata for easy access during post production.

Create moods right in the camera
Picture Profile presets make it easy to adjust colour and gradation to create a variety of moods in camera. These include the invaluable S-Cinetone™, which produces beautiful skin tones. Imported user LUTs can be registered as PPLUT 1 to 4 and applied during recording, and an expanded range of 12 Creative Look profiles, including FL2 and FL3, offers a comprehensive selection of visual moods for many recording needs.

Desqueeze display for anamorphic lenses
Anamorphic lenses are a popular choice for creating a distinctly cinematic look. The FX2 is equipped with a desqueeze display mode that allows monitoring in the standard CinemaScope aspect ratio of 2.93:1 while shooting with anamorphic lenses. It offers 1.3x and 2.0x desqueeze settings, and Sony’s Monitor & Control app provides even more detailed settings for monitoring on a tablet or other external display device.

Frame rate freedom
An FPS menu inherits features from Cinema Line higher-end models, including a [Variable] setting that allows intuitive frame-rate control: up to 2.5x slow motion25 at 4K resolution, or up to 5x slow motion when recording in Full HD at up to 120 fps.

An extensive range of expressive E-mount lenses
Sony offers a range of more than 70 high-performance E-mount lenses, including ultra-wide angles, super telephoto zooms, exquisite primes and powered zooms. Combine with Sony original microphones for outstanding sound quality and choose from a variety of other accessories to bring your creative vision to life.

Compact and lightweight with built-in accessory mount points
With the same compact flat-top design as the Cinema Line FX3 and FX30, the FX2 is ideal for handheld shooting as well as gimbal and drone mounting. The magnesium alloy exterior has 1/4-20 (UNC) screw holes in three locations for mounting accessories, making the overall system lighter and more compact, while reducing setup and takedown time. Two additional screw holes for secure tripod mounting are located on the bottom panel.

Attach a top handle for extra handling ease
Sony’s XLR Handle Unit XLR-H1 can be attached to the FX2 body to minimise shifts in the centre of gravity when changing lenses. It can also significantly enhance handheld shooting flexibility, especially when performing tricky manoeuvres like shooting from a low position while moving. The handle has three 1/4-20 screw holes for further accessory mounting.

AI-based Real-time Recognition AF
Equipped with a powerful AI processing unit, the FX2 is capable of Real-time Recognition AF for humans, animals, birds, vehicles and even insects. A detection frame indicates the recognised subject and tracking can be initiated simply by touching the subject on the monitor screen. Advanced human pose estimation technology accurately recognises subject movement, and human eye recognition has been improved by about 30% compared to the FX3/FX30.

Fine-tuned focus control
AF Assist allows seamless switching to manual focus for smooth focus transitions, while a range of 7 autofocus transition speed settings and 5 sensitivity settings offer detailed control. Focus Map makes it easier to visualise depth of field by overlaying focus info on the live view display, and the Breathing Compensation function can significantly enhance image stability.

Automatic framing using advanced AI
The FX2's Auto Framing feature automatically crops and tracks a subject to keep them in a prominent position when the camera is mounted on a tripod, producing footage that looks like it was shot by an experienced operator. The Framing Stabilizer function automatically keeps the subject in the same position within the frame, which can be useful, for example, when the camera operator is moving alongside the subject.

Stabilisation for dynamic handheld shooting
Active Mode boosts stabilisation while walking and shooting. Or, for shooting at an even faster pace, there’s Dynamic active Mode that utilises electronic stabilisation for as much as 30% greater effect, making it possible to shoot stable footage even when running around. Corresponding stabilisation metadata is embedded in the footage allowing for even greater stabilisation control in post production if needed.

Stills at the flip of a switch
A single switch selects MOVIE or STILL mode and instantly recalls all the corresponding settings. In addition to providing 33 MP resolution and continuous bursts at up to 10 fps, the camera is equipped with a [Creating still images from Shot Marks] function that allows you to snap stills while recording or playing video that has a previously imported user LUT.

Visual consistency across stills and videos
The Log mode is also available for stills, making it possible to shoot JPEG and HEIF still images with the S-Log3 gamma curve used during a video shoot, so the same workflow can be easily applied during post production. Transform your stills in editing applications such as Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve, ready for a variety of uses while maintaining the same look.

Tiltable high-definition electronic viewfinder
Keep focused on shooting even in bright or distracting environments, thanks to an OLED viewfinder with approximately 3.68 million dots. Magnification is 0.70x (50mm lens, infinity focus, -1m-1 dioptre), and the angle of view and eyepoint are optimised for video recording. The viewfinder itself can be rotated from 0 ° to +90° for easy viewing at just about any angle, and the eye cup can be removed or reversed left-to-right as necessary.

Control layout designed for professional use
The FX2 boasts the size and weight advantages of mirrorless cameras while delivering professional operability. Frequently used controls are concentrated around the grip and on the top panel, and long-stroke buttons on the top panel are easily operated even with your thumb. The zoom lever allows efficient power zoom and Clear Image Zoom control.

Flexible vari-angle LCD monitor
The high-definition 3.0 type vari-angle 1.03 million dot LCD monitor can be rotated through a wide range of angles and is clear of interference from an HDMI cable. Touch operation remains available when the monitor is open in a sideways position.

Frequently used parameters all in one place
The FX2 inherits the BIG6 (Home) screen from high-end CineAlta cameras such as VENICE, which allows you to easily monitor six essential parameters in MOVIE mode: FPS (frame rate), ISO, Shutter (speed/angle), Aperture or ND Filter, Look, and White Balance. This proven BIG6 (Home) screen contributes to smooth, intuitive operation, and provides quick access to Variable/Fixed parameters.

Proxy recording
Low-bitrate HD proxy videos can be recorded simultaneously with any of the available recording formats, including XAVC S-I 4K. These files can then be used for editing and previewing to reduce computer load when working with 4K footage. Proxy files can be recorded in two formats: XAVC HS (1920 x 1080) at 10-bit depth, or XAVC S (1280 x 720) at an even lighter 8-bit depth.

Tally lamps and high visibility recording indication
The camera is equipped with tally lamps on both its front (top) and back, so you can easily keep track of whether you’re capturing the action. The illuminated REC button also functions as a tally lamp linked to the rear lamp, and a red frame on the LCD monitor acts as another indicator for recording, remaining visible even when the screen is partly obscured by a rig or gimbal.

CFexpress Type A memory card support
Two card slots support SDXC/SDHC UHS-II/UHS-I memory cards, with one also supporting CFexpress Type A cards, giving you plenty of options for stable and reliable high-bitrate recording. Select the recording mode to suit your needs: video and stills can be recorded to different cards, recording can be automatically switched to a second card when the first is full, and more.

Digital audio without degradation
With an XLR Handle Unit XLR-H1 attached, the FX2 can record high-quality audio via two XLR connectors and a digital audio interface without the need for extra batteries or cables. Microphones equipped with XLR connectors are available separately. Four-channel audio, 24-bit recording, and other settings can be easily applied.

4:2:2 10-bit or 16-bit RAW output via HDMI
An HDMI Type-A terminal enables 4K 60p (59.94p) 4:2:2 10-bit or 16-bit RAW video output to an external recorder for flexible post production. 16-bit RAW video is output43 at 4672 x 2628 resolution (16:9 aspect ratio), which also covers DCI-4K (4096 x 2160), with selectable [59.94p]/[29.97p]/[23.98p]/[24.00p] frame rates.
Time code synchronisation
The FX2 can be synced to timecodes from a second camera that has a BNC output terminal. Connect its Multi/Micro USB terminal to the dedicated VMC-BNCM adaptor cable, and then to the second camera via a BNC cable.

Plenty of power for long shoots
A high-capacity NP-FZ100 battery and effective power management provide up to 100 minutes of actual video time or up to 155 minutes of continuous shooting. For longer shooting times, continuous power can be supplied from a power adaptor or a mobile battery that supports USB Power Delivery (PD)47. The optional DC-C1 DC Coupler can supply stable power without occupying the camera’s USB Type-C® terminal.

Flexible network communication
The FX2 supports Wi-Fi communication at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz (802.11ac). Simply select the band that provides the most stable communication with the least interference. Wired transfer to an FTP server using the 1000BASE-T standard is also possible via a USB-Ethernet LAN adaptor connected to the camera’s SuperSpeed USB 10 Gbps compatible USB Type-C port. A USB connection can also be used for convenient remote shooting.

Easy live streaming
The FX2 is also a great choice for live streaming to a computer via USB (UVC/UAC) or either a wireless or wired LAN network. You can stream up to 4K (3840 x 2160) 59.94p video via LAN while simultaneously recording to the camera’s memory card. LAN streaming protocols include RTMP, RTMPS, and SRT.

Effective heat management
Enjoy uninterrupted video recording time for formats up to 4K 59.94p. Heat buildup is prevented through a combination of an internal cooling fan, a highly thermal conductive graphite material used in the image stabilisation unit, and an innovative design that allows ample air intake even when the LCD monitor is closed. The cooling fan has three modes that can be selected according to shooting conditions: Auto, Minimum, and Off while Recording.

Dust and moisture resistant design
Numerous refinements throughout the body design have enhanced dust and moisture resistance, ensuring maximum reliability in challenging outdoor conditions. The camera’s outer shell seams and the battery cover are well sealed, the cooling fan flow is carefully isolated, and the lens lock button has been redesigned, among other improvements.

Monitor & Control
Sony's Monitor & Control app not only allows intuitive remote operation and image monitoring on a smartphone or tablet screen but also provides waveform and other displays for exposure confirmation and precise focusing. Multi-monitoring is available when multiple cameras are wirelessly connected to a single iPad. All of this can contribute to smoother workflows with a minimal crew.

Catalyst Browse, Catalyst Prepare/Plugin
The Catalyst Browse and Catalyst Prepare apps allow convenient editing of video recorded in Log mode with embedded LUTs. Shot marks and OK/NG/KEEP flags added while recording can also be imported for easier shot selection. Image stabilisation, breathing compensation, rolling shutter, and other metadata embedded while recording can be used to make precise corrections during post production.

Cloud Upload (camera direct)
Recorded files can be directly uploaded to Creators’ Cloud storage from the camera without having to transfer via a smartphone or other device. Once in the Creators’ Cloud, data can be transferred to other cloud services such as Google Drive™ or Adobe Lightroom to suit your workflow.

Creators' Cloud platform
Creators' Cloud is a platform that supports creative work from shooting to production by combining Sony's advanced camera technology and the cloud. It's also a place for discovery and collaboration with other creators around the world. Explore web, mobile, and PC-based apps for efficient solutions that integrate cameras with shooting and production apps and services.

Non-plastic packaging materials
Sony is working towards the use of non-plastic packaging materials that provide ample protection against shock and impact. Plant-based non-woven fabrics are used for product bags, further reducing the use of plastics and minimising environmental stress.

Greater accessibility for all users
Accessibility features, such as a menu magnifier and a screen reader that reads menu text aloud, make it easier for everyone to enjoy digital imaging. Advanced features, like AI-based Real-time Recognition AF for a wide range of subjects, intuitive touch operation for subject tracking, and many more, make the joys of photography and moviemaking available to the widest possible range of users.
