External Vlog Monitor for Xperia Smartphones

The Sony XQZ-IV01 is a compact external monitor designed to support video recording and self-filming with compatible Sony Xperia smartphones. It functions as an external viewfinder for the phone’s Photography Pro and Videography Pro applications, allowing users to monitor the camera image while filming themselves with the smartphone’s main camera. This setup is useful for vloggers, content creators, interviews and social media videos where seeing the composition while remaining in front of the camera is important.

3.5-Inch Display with HD Resolution

The monitor features a 3.5-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 1280 × 720 pixels. Its display provides a separate viewing surface for checking framing, subject placement and the overall composition while recording. The compact screen is particularly useful when the smartphone is positioned away from the user or mounted on a tripod, where checking the phone’s own display would otherwise be inconvenient.

Flip Function for Self-Recording

A dedicated screen-flip control allows the displayed image to be reversed to suit the filming arrangement. This is useful when the monitor is used for self-recording, helping users check their position and composition while facing the smartphone’s main camera. A separate brightness control allows the display brightness to be adjusted to suit different shooting environments.

USB-C Connection and Smartphone Power

The monitor connects to a compatible Xperia smartphone through its USB-C INPUT port, which carries both the image signal and power from the phone. The included connection cable measures approximately 160 mm, including its connectors, helping keep the setup compact. A separate USB-C POWER port allows an external 5 V, 3.0 A power supply to be connected; when powered this way, the monitor can supply up to 5 V, 2.6 A to the compatible smartphone.

Microphone Connectivity for Video Production

A three-pole 3.5 mm microphone input allows a compatible external microphone to be connected to the monitor, with the microphone audio signal routed to the smartphone. This can simplify the arrangement when filming with an external microphone and monitoring the image at the same time. The microphone is not included, and the connector is intended for a three-pole microphone plug rather than a standard four-pole smartphone headset plug.

Mounting Options and Lightweight Construction

The supplied holder uses a magnetic attachment to secure the monitor and features a camera accessory shoe on its upper side, allowing it to be incorporated into compatible camera-rig arrangements. A 1/4-inch screw socket on the bottom of the holder supports tripod or accessory mounting, while the monitor itself also has a 1/4-inch screw socket on the rear. The monitor measures approximately 94 × 56 × 12 mm and weighs 69 g; the holder measures 83 × 36 × 28 mm and weighs 77 g.

Xperia Compatibility and Included Accessories

The XQZ-IV01 is designed to work with compatible Xperia models through the Photography Pro or Videography Pro applications. Sony lists the Xperia 1 VI, Xperia 5 V, Xperia 1 V, Xperia 5 IV, Xperia PRO-I and Xperia 1 IV among the compatible devices, although compatibility and feature availability may vary by region and software version. The package includes the monitor, holder, connection cable and user manual. The monitor does not have a water-resistance rating, so it should be protected from rain and moisture during use.
