Sony NW-WM1AM3

Premium portable audio experience

The Sony NW-WM1AM3 Walkman is a high-end digital audio player designed for listeners who want to enjoy their music with detailed sound reproduction and a dedicated listening device. Its combination of advanced audio circuitry, high-resolution playback, wireless connectivity and a refined aluminium construction makes it suitable for personal listening at home, while travelling or on the move. The player supports a wide range of audio formats and offers flexible ways to connect headphones and external audio equipment.

High-resolution audio playback

The NW-WM1AM3 supports High-Resolution Audio playback, allowing compatible recordings to retain fine musical details, subtle dynamics and a broad frequency range. It handles FLAC, WAV, Apple Lossless and AIFF files at sampling rates up to 384 kHz, as well as DSD audio at up to 11.2896 MHz. Support for APE, MP3, WMA, AAC and other formats makes it convenient to maintain a varied music library without converting every file into the same format. MQA playback is also supported.

Advanced digital amplification and balanced output

Sony’s S-Master HX digital amplification technology is designed to deliver clear, controlled audio reproduction while helping minimise unwanted distortion. The player provides both a conventional 3.5 mm stereo headphone output and a balanced standard headphone connection, giving listeners the flexibility to use a broad selection of compatible headphones. The balanced connection is particularly useful with headphones equipped with a matching cable, while the dedicated audio architecture is designed to preserve detail across demanding musical passages.

Sound processing and listening customisation

A selection of Sony sound-processing functions allows playback to be tailored to different recordings and listening preferences. DSEE Ultimate is designed to restore high-frequency detail in compatible compressed audio, while the 10-band equaliser provides precise tonal adjustment. Additional features include DC Phase Linearizer, Dynamic Normalizer, Vinyl Processor and three Look-ahead Noise Shaper settings. Direct Source mode allows music to be played without additional sound-effect processing when a more direct presentation is preferred.

Large touchscreen and intuitive navigation

The 5.5-inch Full HD colour touchscreen has a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels, providing a clear interface for browsing music, managing playlists and navigating supported applications. The Android-based operating system enables access to compatible music services and applications over Wi-Fi, alongside playback of locally stored files. Music can be organised by artist, album, genre, composer, release year, playlist and other categories, making large collections easier to navigate.

Storage and versatile connectivity

The player includes 128 GB of internal storage, of which approximately 91 GB is available for user content, and supports microSD, microSDHC and microSDXC cards for additional capacity. USB Type-C supports data transfer and USB DAC operation, allowing the Walkman to function as an external digital-to-analogue audio device with a compatible computer. Bluetooth supports wireless headphone connections and codecs including LDAC, aptX, aptX HD, aptX Adaptive, AAC and SBC, with LC3 support also listed in the specifications. Wi-Fi connectivity supports compatible online music applications.

Long battery life and practical construction

The rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides up to approximately 35 hours of playback under specified conditions using Sony’s W.Music application, with battery life varying according to file format, settings, volume and connection method. Playback of 96 kHz/24-bit FLAC files is rated at approximately 33 hours under specified conditions, and a full charge takes around four hours. The aluminium chassis measures approximately 86 × 157.6 × 23.2 mm and weighs about 425 g. The supplied package includes a USB-A to USB-C cable and documentation; protective port caps are attached to the player. Headphones and a microSD card are not included.
