Sony AC-PW20 AC Adapter

Continuous power for compatible Sony cameras

The Sony AC-PW20 is an AC adapter designed to power compatible Sony cameras directly from a mains outlet. It provides a stable external power source for supported Alpha and compact system cameras, reducing the need to rely exclusively on rechargeable batteries. This makes it particularly useful for extended photo sessions, video recording, product photography, streaming and other situations where uninterrupted camera operation is important.

Stable 7.6 V DC output

The adapter converts mains electricity into a 7.6 V DC output suitable for compatible camera power systems. By supplying power externally, it helps maintain camera operation during longer recording sessions without requiring frequent battery changes. The adapter is intended for use with supported camera models and the appropriate Sony DC coupling plate, which connects the external power supply to the camera’s battery compartment.

Universal AC input for international use

The AC-PW20 supports an input voltage of 100–240 V AC at 50/60 Hz, allowing it to operate with compatible mains supplies in many countries. This is convenient for photographers and video creators who travel or work in different locations. The adapter can be used with the appropriate local power connection, subject to the supplied power cord and regional requirements.

Useful for extended video recording

When used with a compatible camera, the AC-PW20 provides an alternative to battery-powered operation during long recordings. It is suitable for interviews, studio video, online broadcasts, tutorials and fixed-camera setups where the camera may need to remain powered for an extended period. External power can also reduce interruptions caused by depleted batteries during planned shoots.

Compatibility with selected Sony camera models

The adapter is compatible with selected Sony Alpha E-mount and compact system cameras, including various models in the NEX and α series. Compatibility varies by camera, so the exact model should be checked against Sony’s official accessory compatibility information before purchase. The AC-PW20 is an external power adapter rather than a standalone battery charger and should be used with the appropriate compatible connection accessory.

Compact design for studio and travel use

Measuring approximately 127 × 35 × 63 mm, the adapter has a compact form that is easy to store with camera equipment. Sony lists its weight at approximately 310 g on its current product information, although specifications may vary by regional documentation. Its modest size makes it practical for studio work, desktop setups and mobile production kits where a dedicated external power source is needed.

A practical addition to a camera power setup

The Sony AC-PW20 is designed for users who need reliable mains-powered operation with a compatible Sony camera. Its universal AC input, 7.6 V DC output and compact construction make it useful for both stationary and location-based work when a suitable power outlet is available. Before use, confirm camera compatibility and ensure that the required DC coupling plate and power cord are appropriate for the intended setup.
