Comfortable Vertical Shooting

The Sony VG-C4EM is a dedicated vertical grip designed for selected Sony Alpha full-frame mirrorless cameras. It provides a more secure and comfortable way to hold the camera when shooting in portrait orientation, making it particularly useful for portrait photography, events and other situations where vertical framing is frequent. The additional grip area helps maintain a stable hold while allowing photographers to concentrate on composition and camera operation.

Controls for Portrait Orientation

The grip incorporates a secondary shutter release button, a multi-selector and additional operating controls positioned for convenient access when the camera is held vertically. Their layout and handling are designed to provide an experience similar to using the camera's built-in controls in landscape orientation. This reduces the need to adjust hand position or reach awkwardly across the camera body when switching between horizontal and vertical compositions.

Capacity for Two NP-FZ100 Batteries

The VG-C4EM accommodates one or two Sony NP-FZ100 rechargeable batteries. Using two batteries can provide nearly twice the operating time available from a single battery, depending on shooting conditions and power consumption. When one battery is depleted, the camera automatically switches to the other, helping maintain operation during extended photo sessions without requiring an immediate battery change.

Battery Status and USB Charging

Remaining battery capacity is displayed on the camera's LCD screen in 1% increments, allowing users to monitor available power more precisely. Batteries installed in the grip can be recharged through the camera's USB connection without removing the grip from the body. The camera can also receive supplementary power from a compatible USB power source, such as a power bank or AC adapter, for longer shooting sessions. Charging and power output cannot be performed simultaneously.

Durable Magnesium Alloy Construction

The exterior of the VG-C4EM is made from magnesium alloy, providing a durable structure while keeping the accessory relatively lightweight. Its construction is designed to complement the camera body in both appearance and rigidity. The grip weighs approximately 290 g without batteries, adding functionality and battery capacity without substantially increasing the overall weight of a compatible camera setup.

Dust and Moisture Resistance

Sealing materials used around the grip attachment are designed to provide dust and moisture resistance comparable to the construction approach used in compatible camera bodies. This helps make the accessory suitable for outdoor photography and demanding working environments. The protection is not a guarantee of complete dustproof or waterproof performance, so care should still be taken in heavy rain, near water and in particularly dusty conditions.

Camera Compatibility and Dimensions

The Sony VG-C4EM is designed for selected Alpha camera models, including the α1, α7 IV, α7R IV, α7R V, α7S III and α9 II. Compatibility should be confirmed for the specific camera model before purchase. The grip measures approximately 128.8 × 108.9 × 67 mm and uses NP-FZ100 batteries. Simultaneous installation with the LA-EA2 or LA-EA4 mount adapter is not supported because the limited clearance can make the grip difficult to hold.
