The QuartzLine Circular Polarising Filter from PolarPro reduces reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarised due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. Sunlight naturally becomes partially polarised when it reflects off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter and appear as haze. A polarising filter arranges and filters this directionally polarised light at right angles to the reflected light, enabling much of it to be absorbed. This results in a noticeable reduction in glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces, as well as increased saturation of skies and foliage.

The only difference between a circular polarizer and a linear polarizer is that the former contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. This quarter wave plane is added to circularly polarise the linearly polarised light for use with autofocus and exposure functions. Due to the way light is broken down and filtered by a linear polariser, autofocus and exposure accuracy can be affected. However, when the light is circularly polarised, these functions can be used.

This filter is made from quartz glass for enhanced durability. Sixteen layers of anti-reflection coating offer scratch protection to the filter substrate while promoting clarity and colour fidelity, and preventing internal ghosting and reflections. These coatings also result in an improved beading effect when the filter comes into contact with water or oil, making it easier to clean.

The quartz glass is set within a brass filter ring with knurled sides that can be rotated to adjust the intensity of the polarisation effect. The brass material and knurling prevent jamming and provide additional strength and a textured grip when mounting or removing the filter from a lens.
